COVER LETTER

To Whom It May Concern,

As an enthusiast when it comes to providing equitable educational opportunities for all students, I was thrilled when I came across the position to become a teacher. As someone with an extensive background in education, I am confident in my abilities to guide students throughout their high school careers. I have worked as a high school teacher in the Bronx, NY for seven years where I have experience supporting students who are similar in demographic to those in Detroit.

I believe the best way to support a student is to develop relationships so individual plans can be implemented. I have experience teaching physics, chemistry and psychology at the high school level, but my expertise in advising students is not limited to those subjects. I teach through making all science content relatable to everyday life, which in turn encourages more students to want to pursue a career in the sciences. In addition, through understanding student interests and goals, I meet with them during my free time to discuss what future actions would best suit their needs. In fact, graduated students still contact me for mentorship.

In addition to my role in the classroom, I pay close attention to the needs of the students and my coworkers to ensure that the school runs smoothly and inspires the success for all. Because of my experience in encouraging student achievement though open communication, I was promoted to the lead twelfth grade teacher in 2018. In this role, I:

  • Held meetings with the entire senior class to assess interests to keep school activities engaging and meaningful.

  • Maintained a positive, professional relationship with the administration and staff at the school.

I would like to thank you for your time and consideration. With my experience and education, I am confident in my ability to deliver as a highly qualified high school teacher.

Thank you,

Jasleen Singh
